You may have heard the message that you cannot pour from an empty cup. We can give and give but if we never refill the contents will run out and, despite the efforts to continue to serve, nothing remains to share.
It seems to me that a new movement has begun with great emphasis on self-care. I believe that, at the core, the concepts are similar. However, we should take caution that the focus is not too great on ourselves. Filling the cup is necessary – but with what and with what purpose?
If our selfcare is focused on only us, it may fill us for only a moment rather than sustain us for the purposes God has outlined. We certainly should seek refuge and friendships. He directs us to take care of ourselves and our bodies so that we can continue to serve as directed. Refills of love, Christs word, encouragement, true rest will replenish your soul and allow us to be ready to serve others. Even in our selfcare pursuits, we must seek God’s guidance, so we are not mislead.
In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success. Proverbs 3:6
Satan can slip into seemingly simple messages and shift the story to us rather than Christ. Daily time spent in His word keeps us close, so we hear his whispers louder than any other. Seek renewal and selfcare, don’t let your body or soul rundown so that you are too empty to give more. Yet, remeber to seek Gods renewal and not your own. Christ Himself is our peace. Ephesians 2:14 He is waiting to refill your cup all we must do is ask.
